CUPERTINO, CA -- Symantec Corporation (NasdaqGS: SYMC) announced an agreement to acquire Lindon, UT-based Altiris for $830 million in cash.

With the looming release of Windows Vista threatening to make anti-virus programs a commodity, Symantec has been under pressure to come up with a strategy to expand and diversify its security offerings.
