CUPERTINO, CA -- Symantec Corporation (NasdaqGS: SYMC) announced an agreement to acquire Lindon, UT-based Altiris for $830 million in cash. With the looming release of Windows Vista threatening to make anti-virus programs a commodity, Symantec has been under pressure to come up with a strategy to expand and diversify its security offerings. With the acquisition of Altiris, Symantec will be able to diversify into IT network management products that address security, storage, remote managed services and client management.
